Edmund Yates (1831–1894; Oxford DNB); journalist and novelist. A prolific writer, he had nine plays produced (written collaboratively), light verse, nineteen novels, and articles in periodicals such as Temple Bar, of which he became editor. Also edited Tinsley's Magazine and founded The World.
