Francis Hastings Doyle, second baronet (1810–1888; Oxford DNB); poet and civil servant. Elected Professor of Poetry at Oxford in 1867. Among his better-known ballads are 'The Red Thread of Honour', 'The Private of the Buffs', 'The Fusilier's Dog', 'The Loss of the Birkenhead', and 'Mehrab Khan'.
