Richard Monckton Milnes, first Baron Houghton (1809–1885; Oxford DNB); author and politician. Elected MP for Pontefract (1837), a seat he held until his elevation to the peerage in 1863. Publications included religious writings, volumes of poetry, and a Life and Letters of Keats (1848). Appointed a Vice-President of the Society of Authors.
