Henry Edward Manning (1808–1892; Oxford DNB); Roman Catholic convert and Cardinal-Archbishop of Westminster (Archbishop from 1865 until his death; appointed Cardinal in 1875). Ordained into the Church of England in 1832, resigning his post in 1850 and entering the Roman Catholic Church in 1851. Appointed a Vice-President of the Society of Authors.
Alfred Tennyson, first Baron Tennyson (1809–1892; Oxford DNB); poet. Appointed to the position of Poet Laureate in 1850, a position he held until his death. First President of the Society of Authors (from May 1884 until his death).
