Sir (Samuel) Squire Sprigge (1860–1937;
Oxford DNB); medical editor and author. Editor of
The Lancet (1909); published articles on art and medicine, and books on medicine and the history of publishing. Appointed Secretary to the Society in 1889, taking over from
James Stanley Little. Succeeded by
George Herbert Thring in 1892. Chaired the Price of Novels Sub-Committee from 1909.
