Biography

Sir F. C. Burnand (1836–1917; Oxford DNB); author, editor and playwright. Became editor of Punch in 1880, a post he held until 1906. A prolific playwright, he is best known as the librettist of Arthur Sullivan's comic opera Cox and Box (1866). Appointed a Vice-President of the Society of Authors.
