Management was voluntary and unpaid, and there was a separate Council for the Syndicate. The Syndicate's services were, initially, only available to members of the Society. Run by <a href="https://historysoa.com/people/Colles-William-Morris">William Morris Colles</a>, it was based on the same floor as the Society of Authors' own offices in Portugal Street. In 1898, there was a split between the Society and the Syndicate, dissolving the partnership entirely after a series of problems with Colles' running of the organisation. Colles continued the business until his death in 1926.<a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=39&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Colles%2C+William+Morris">Colles, William Morris</a><a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=51&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Group%2FOrganisation">Group/Organisation</a>Authors-Syndicate<a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=59&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=1890">1890</a><a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=60&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=1926">1926</a><em>The Author</em> 2.12 (May 1892): p. 423. <a href="https://hdl.handle.net/2027/mdp.39015031017927">https://hdl.handle.net/2027/mdp.39015031017927</a>.<a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=4&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=4+Portugal+Street%2C+Lincoln%27s+Inn+Fields">4 Portugal Street, Lincoln&#039;s Inn Fields</a>; <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=4&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=London">London</a>https://historysoa.com/files/original/3/234/1892-Authors-Syndicate.pngaffiliated organisations, publishing
